Install MX Player and use it as default player in Enigma-TV.
Also and very important : in MX Player, activate the HW+ and/or HW decoder.
Then the video quality will be very good.

I can get it to work on a android set top box however the picture quality is terrible. any advice on the settings I should use

Hi,

The Enigma-TV Server tool MUST be installed and running all the time, this is mandatory.
The Server is the connection point for ALL cient applications.
On an Android STB it should work, yes ... but in the current version there is a bug : it will only work using WIFI on the device ... if the device is connected to LAN then the app will crash.
That will be solved in the next release.
